In general, we will make a decision 30 minutes before the start time of a course, regarding weather conditions.

Summer Term Newsletter

Many thanks to all of you who attended the new spring term sessions and Easter holiday camps, it’s been a great start to the year. The summer term is here and as there is a lot to tell you about, we have split the newsletter into general, junior and adult and sections.
 
General
  • We are very pleased to welcome our new team members – Coaches Mat Garnham and Chris Baker and Centre Customer Team – Kate and Rachel
  • A date for your diary – Saturday May 19th – an invitation to our All Star Trust Charity afternoon. It’s free and it is for the whole family; includes fun tennis, games, an exhibition match and a chance to see the junior players supported by the Trust in action. There will also be a charity auction which will include a very exclusive bandana signed by Raphael Nadal. More information coming soon
  • Another date  – Allplay Day – Sunday 13th May 12-3pm, come along and try out various activities on court for all age groups – This is a FREE initiative run by the LTA, Wandsworth Common is currently 5th on Venue leader board, more info on Allplay and How to sign up here
  • Do you want to book tennis courts up to 7 days in advance and receive discounts on playing sessions? Get a Wandsworth Borough booking membership card at Wandsworth Common for just £40 per year or £49 for family membership.  More info here
  • Wimbledon Tickets – all our registered British Tennis Members (age 9 years and over) who want to be in the ballot for our allocation of Wimbledon Tickets Draw should come along to the Nature Centre on Wednesday 9th of May at 7pm or Saturday 12th May at 4.30pm. We will send a further email soon with more details
  • The bowling green is now open – bowls are available to hire from the tennis office, we can accommodate individuals to large groups. Call 0208 871 4706 for more information or here
Junior All Stars 
  • We are aiming to make the Wandsworth Common Juniors the most regularly competing in the country. All our Junior players who are interested in playing regularly can come along to our Matchplay Friday sessions which start this week on April 27th
  • We are embracing the new LTA mini tennis awards into out term time sessions (Afterschool & Saturday clubs)  find out more here
  • This is a regular opportunity to compete and improve your LTA rating
  • red and orange ball      5 to 6pm
  • green and yellow ball    6 to 7pm

  • Head Coach Rob Baran runs this session which costs £6 per, no booking required
 
Adult All Stars
  • Cardio Tennis Relaunch– the new sessions start Wednesday 9th May at 7pm. If you would like your first session for free, just call us on 020 8871 4706 (subject to availability, terms and condition apply) find out more here
  • Monday Night Social Players Session – for intermediate players and above, the Monday night session kicks off on the 7th May Bank Holiday, 6 to 8pm that night only (Booking by phone required 020 8 871 4706) then runs every Monday until September from 7-9 pm more info here
  • Thursday morning term-time Social Players sessions are now running for level 3 from 9.30 to 11am and Level 2 from 11am to 12.30 pm, social doubles and singles, no booking required more info here
  • If you would like to take up tennis from the beginning, or brush up your basic skills – we have a few places available on Sunday workshops for levels 1 and 2. Cost is £39, but only £31 for those on 2012 courses or with valid membership. Call 0208 871 4706 to book
  • 5 week Level 1 evening course starting soon on Wednesday 2nd May from 6.30 to 8pm more info here

Cardio Tennis

Cardio Tennis is a series of tennis-based drills and activities played to up-tempo music on a tennis court. It does not require tennis skills, but is all about keeping your heart rate up, burning calories and having fun. Whether the ball goes in or out is irrelevant as the main purpose is to get fit.

LTA's BRITISH TENNIS MEMBERSHIP

Join the LTA

Have you joined the LTA's British Tennis membership scheme yet? This is currently free and offers many benefits, and will help to put Wandsworth Common on the map. We would like all players to join, as they will then have an LTA ranking. To join, please visit the LTA website. When you get to the 'Affiliated Club' section of the registration process, you will need to select Surrey as the county and Wandsworth Common Tennis Centre as the club. Ignore the remove option and click on the 'Next' button to finish.

Allplay Tennis

All Play Allplay has been set up as a national campaign by the LTA to encourage and support people wishing to play tennis. The campaign was launched by former British number one, Greg Rusedski, Olympic champion, Denise Lewis and TV Presenter Tim Lovejoy who joined forces to help more people play tennis and have championed the scheme since its start in June.

Allplay aims to make easy for tennis enthusiasts to find a playing partner, a local court or coach, simply by signing up at http://www.allplaytennis.co.uk and setting up a your personal profile.

The website is home to over 7,000 users all looking to connect with other keen tennis players. Join allplay today and build your own profile specifying your playing ability and the places you like to place!
